Frequently asked questions
Why is in-hand pay lower than CTC ÷ 12?
CTC includes the employer’s PF (and sometimes gratuity and insurance) that you do not receive in cash. Your own PF, professional tax and income tax (TDS) are then deducted from gross salary.
How is PF calculated?
Both you and your employer contribute 12% of basic + DA. Many employers limit it to the ₹15,000 wage ceiling (₹1,800 a month each); others contribute on the full basic.
How much is professional tax?
It is a state levy capped at ₹2,500 a year. Maharashtra and Karnataka charge ₹200 a month and ₹300 in February; West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Gujarat use income slabs; Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have none. Rates shown are general rates — some states exempt women or lower incomes.
Which tax regime is used?
The new regime (the default) for FY 2026-27, with the ₹75,000 standard deduction. Use the Income Tax Calculator to compare with the old regime.
What is the full form of CTC?
Cost to Company: the total yearly amount an employer spends on you, including salary, employer PF, gratuity and other benefits.
How much in-hand salary will I get from my CTC?
Typically about 75–90% of CTC ÷ 12, depending on your basic share, PF, professional tax and income tax. Enter your CTC for an exact figure.
Is in-hand salary the same as take-home salary?
Yes. Both mean the amount credited to your bank account each month after all deductions.
