Frequently asked questions
How is the employer’s 12% split?
Of the employer’s 12%, 8.33% of wages (capped at a ₹15,000 wage, so at most ₹1,250 a month) goes to the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS); the rest goes to your EPF account — 3.67% when wages are ₹15,000 or less.
What is the EPF interest rate?
EPFO declared 8.25% for FY 2024-25. Interest is calculated on the monthly running balance and credited once a year. Change the rate if a newer one applies.
Is EPF interest taxable?
Interest on your own contributions above ₹2.5 lakh a year (₹5 lakh if the employer does not contribute) is taxable. Withdrawals after 5 years of continuous service are tax-free.
Is the EPS pension included?
No. EPS builds a pension, not a lump sum: roughly pensionable salary (max ₹15,000) × pensionable service ÷ 70 per month, payable from 58 if you have at least 10 years of service.
How much PF is deducted from salary?
The employee contributes 12% of basic + DA. The employer also pays 12%, of which up to ₹1,250 a month goes to the pension scheme (EPS) and the rest to your EPF account.
Can I include my existing PF balance?
Yes. Enter your current EPF balance and it grows along with future contributions.
Does VPF count in this calculator?
Voluntary PF is not entered separately. You can approximate it by raising the basic + DA figure in proportion.
