What is the format of an IFSC?
11 characters: the first 4 letters identify the bank, the 5th is always 0 (reserved for future use) and the last 6 letters or digits identify the branch — for example SBIN0001234.
Can this tool tell me the branch address?
No. It works offline and only knows bank codes. Look up the branch on the RBI website (Bank-wise IFSC and MICR) or your bank’s site before sending money.
Why did a payment fail with a valid IFSC?
The code may belong to a merged or closed branch. After bank mergers, old IFSCs were retired — check the current code with the beneficiary’s bank.
What is the IFSC code format?
An IFSC has 11 characters: 4 letters for the bank, a fifth character that is always zero, and a 6-character branch code, for example SBIN0001234.
Is the 5th character of an IFSC 0 or O?
It is always the digit zero, reserved by RBI for future use. Typing the letter O is a common reason for failed transfers.
