XIRR Calculator

Annualised return (XIRR) on investments made on different dates — SIPs, top-ups, partial withdrawals and the current value.

About XIRR Calculator

This free XIRR calculator finds the true yearly return on investments made at different times — SIP instalments, lump-sum top-ups, partial withdrawals and the current value of your mutual fund or portfolio. Enter each cash flow with its date, investments as negative and money received as positive.

XIRR accounts for the exact timing of every amount, so it is the right way to measure SIP returns, while CAGR only fits a single investment. It uses the same 365-day method as spreadsheet XIRR, and you can download the cash flows as CSV. Everything runs in your browser.

How to use XIRR Calculator

  1. Add each investment with its date as a negative amount (money you put in).
  2. Add withdrawals and the current value with today’s date as positive amounts.
  3. Read the XIRR — the yearly return that makes all the cash flows balance.
  4. Download the cash flows as CSV if you need them.

Frequently asked questions

What is XIRR?

XIRR is the annual rate that sets the present value of all your cash flows to zero, taking the exact date of each one into account. It is the right measure for SIPs and investments made at different times; CAGR works only for a single investment.

Which sign should I use?

Money you invest is negative (outflow) and money you receive — withdrawals, dividends and today’s value — is positive. You need at least one of each.

Why is my XIRR different from the fund’s return?

The fund’s published return is for a lump sum over a fixed period. Your XIRR depends on when you invested — money added just before a rise or fall changes it a lot.

How do I calculate XIRR for a SIP?

Enter every SIP instalment as a negative amount on its date, then today’s value of the investment as a positive amount on today’s date. The XIRR is your annualised return.

What is a good XIRR for mutual funds?

It depends on the fund type and period. Over long periods, equity funds in India have often returned 10–14% a year, but past returns do not guarantee future ones.
