About CAGR Calculator
CAGR, or compound annual growth rate, is the steady yearly rate at which a value would have grown from its start to its end. This free CAGR calculator works it out for investments, revenue, profits or any growing figure.
Choose whether to find the CAGR or a future value. For CAGR, enter the start value, end value and number of years; for a projection, enter the start value, a growth rate and years. It turns a total return into an annualised return, so you can compare investments held for different periods. The formula runs in your browser.

Frequently asked questions
What is CAGR?
The constant yearly rate at which an investment would have grown from its start value to its end value: CAGR = (End ÷ Start)1/years − 1.
How is CAGR different from absolute return?
Absolute return is the total change ((End − Start) ÷ Start). CAGR spreads it over the years, so a 100% gain over 5 years is a CAGR of 14.87%.
When should I use XIRR instead?
When there are several cash flows at different dates, such as a SIP. CAGR suits a single investment and a single exit value.
What is the CAGR formula?
CAGR = (End value ÷ Start value)^(1 ÷ years) − 1. For ₹1 lakh growing to ₹2 lakh in 5 years, CAGR is 14.87%.
What is annualised return?
It is the average yearly return that, compounded, gives the total return over the period. For a single investment it is the same as CAGR.
How do I calculate CAGR in Excel?
Use =(End/Start)^(1/Years)-1, or =RRI(Years, Start, End).
