About Translate PDF
This tool translates the text of a PDF into Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati and over 20 other languages, or into English, and gives you a new PDF with proper Indian-script fonts. Pick the source language or let it detect automatically, choose the target language and translate page by page.
It uses the translator built into desktop Google Chrome (version 138 or newer), which runs on your device, so no translation server sees your document. Other browsers and Chrome on phones do not support it yet. The result is a readable machine translation, with each original page starting a new page; images and tables are not reproduced. Scanned PDFs need OCR first.
How to use Translate PDF
- Drop a PDF with real text (or try the sample notice).
- Choose the source language (or Detect automatically) and the language to translate into.
- Click Translate — Chrome downloads the language pack once, then translates page by page on your device.
- Download the translated PDF (page breaks kept) or a .txt file.
Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF sent to a translation server?
No. Translation uses the translator built into Chrome, which runs on your device. No translation server is called, and your PDF never leaves your computer. Chrome downloads each language pack once.
Which browsers work?
Desktop Google Chrome 138 or newer (Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS) has the built-in Translator. Other browsers and Chrome on phones do not have it yet — the tool tells you if yours is missing it, and can still extract the text.
Is the layout kept?
Each original page starts a new page in the translated PDF, with the text as clean paragraphs. Images, tables and columns are not reproduced — it is a readable translation, not a copy of the design.
How good is the translation?
It is machine translation, good for understanding letters, notices and reports. Have legal, medical or official documents checked by a qualified translator.
