PDF Summarizer
Summarise any PDF in seconds: a short, medium or long summary, key points, key terms and reading time — computed on your device.
About PDF Summarizer
This free PDF summarizer reads a document and gives you a short, medium or long summary, a list of key points, the key terms and how long the full PDF takes to read. By default it picks the most important sentences from the text itself, in their original order, so it does not invent facts.
In recent desktop Chrome you can also choose the browser's built-in on-device AI to write a summary in its own words. It is useful for students revising chapters, professionals skimming reports and anyone short of time. Scanned PDFs need OCR first. You can copy the summary or save it as a .txt file, and the PDF never leaves your device.
How to use PDF Summarizer
- Drop a PDF with real text (or try the sample report).
- Choose Short, Medium or Long.
- Read the summary, key points and key terms, and see how long the full PDF takes to read.
- Copy the summary or download it as a .txt file.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded?
No. Your PDF is opened and processed inside your browser and never leaves your device. Only the free libraries, fonts and language files are downloaded from public CDNs (once, then cached).
How does it summarise?
By default it is extractive: it ranks every sentence with TF-IDF and the TextRank algorithm (sentences that share important words with many others rank higher) and keeps the best ones in their original order. It does not invent facts or rewrite sentences.
What is “On-device AI (Chrome)”?
Recent desktop Chrome includes a built-in Summarizer model (Gemini Nano) that writes a summary in its own words. When your browser has it, you can choose it; the model runs locally after a one-time download. Other browsers use the extractive method.
Why is my summary empty?
Scanned PDFs are images and contain no text. Run them through OCR PDF first, then summarise the searchable PDF.
How do I summarise a PDF?
Drop the PDF, choose Short, Medium or Long and read the summary and key points. Copy them or download a .txt file.
Is this an AI PDF summarizer?
The default method ranks sentences with a text algorithm and keeps the best ones. In desktop Chrome with the built-in model, you can switch to on-device AI that rewrites the summary in its own words.
