About Alternate & Mix PDF

This tool interleaves the pages of two or more PDFs, taking one page from each in turn: A1, B1, A2, B2 and so on. Its most common use is fixing a double-sided document scanned on a single-sided scanner: scan the fronts as one file and the backs as another, tick Reverse on the backs, and mix them into the correct order.

You can also take more than one page from each file at a time, limit a file to a page range, and choose what happens when one file is longer. A preview shows the final order before you download. It is free with no sign-up, and your files are processed in the browser, never uploaded.

How to use Alternate & Mix PDF

  1. Drop two or more PDFs, or try the double-sided scan sample.
  2. Order the files; tick Reverse for a file of back sides scanned in reverse order.
  3. Optionally take more than one page from each file at a time, or limit a file to a page range.
  4. Check the preview and click Mix PDFs.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is opened and processed entirely inside your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, so it is safe for confidential documents.

How do I combine a double-sided document scanned on a single-sided scanner?

Scan the front sides (pages 1, 3, 5…) as file A. Turn the stack over and scan the back sides as file B — they come out as …6, 4, 2. Add A then B, tick Reverse on B and mix: you get 1, 2, 3, 4…

What if the files have different page counts?

By default the remaining pages of the longer file are added at the end. Choose “Stop when the shortest file ends” to drop them instead.

What about password-protected PDFs?

PDFs that open without a password but block editing or printing (an owner password, common on bank statements and government downloads) work directly — the restrictions are lifted in your browser. A PDF that asks for a password to open must be unlocked first with Unlock PDF (you need its password).

How do I mix two PDF files page by page?

Add both PDFs in order, check the preview, and click Mix PDFs. Pages alternate between the files, starting with the first one.

How is this different from Merge PDF?

Merge places one whole file after another. Alternate and mix weaves their pages together, which is what you need for odd and even pages scanned separately.
