Image to Text (OCR)

Extract text from photos, screenshots and scanned PDFs in English, Hindi, Bengali, Tamil and 8 more Indian languages — OCR runs in your browser.

About Image to Text (OCR)

This image to text converter uses OCR to copy text from photos, screenshots and scanned PDFs. Pick the languages in your image, drop the files and the text is read on your device, with detected words outlined on the preview. Copy the result or download it as a .txt file.

It supports English, Hindi, Bengali, Tamil and eight more Indian languages, and can read two languages together, such as English and Hindi on a government notice. It is handy for notes, receipts, book pages and ID copies you need to retype. Your images are never uploaded, and it is free with no sign-up.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded?

No. Images never leave your device. The OCR engine (Tesseract.js, about 4 MB) and each language file (1–3 MB) are downloaded once from the jsDelivr CDN and cached by your browser.

How accurate is it?

Clear printed text in good light is usually 95%+ accurate. Handwriting, stylised fonts, low-resolution screenshots and curved pages reduce accuracy — crop to the text and use a sharp, straight photo for best results.

Can it read two languages at once?

Yes. Select several languages (for example English and Hindi) and they are recognised together. Only select languages that are actually in the image — extra languages make it slower and can lower accuracy.

Does it work on PDFs?

Yes. Scanned PDFs are rendered page by page (up to 30 pages) and read. If your PDF already contains selectable text, the PDF to Text tool is faster and exact.

How do I copy text from an image?

Choose the language, drop the image and wait a few seconds. The extracted text appears in the box, ready to copy or download.

Can I convert a Hindi image to text?

Yes. Select Hindi (and English if the image has both) before adding the image, and the Devanagari text is recognised as editable Unicode text.
