Frequently asked questions

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Images never leave your device. The AI model (about 16 MB for People, 3 MB for General objects) is downloaded once from Google's public MediaPipe storage and runs inside your browser.

Which mode should I use?

People uses MediaPipe's selfie multiclass model, which separates hair, skin and clothes — best for portraits, selfies and passport photos. General objects uses DeepLab v3, which recognises 20 kinds of objects (people, cats, dogs, cars, bottles, chairs and more) and keeps the most prominent one.

Why are the edges not perfect?

The models work at about 256 px and the result is refined against edges in your photo. Fine hair and see-through objects are hard for any tool — use the feather slider and the Erase/Restore brush for touch-ups.

Is there a size limit?

Photos are processed at up to 2048 px on the longest side to keep things fast on phones; larger photos are scaled down to that size.

How do I remove the background from a photo for free?

Drop the photo, choose People or General objects, wait a moment for the AI to finish, and download the transparent PNG.

Can I change the background to white or another colour?

Yes. After the background is removed, pick a solid colour such as white, blue or any custom shade, and download the new image.
