Frequently asked questions
What are the GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B due dates?
Monthly filers: GSTR-1 by the 11th and GSTR-3B by the 20th of the next month. QRMP filers: GSTR-1 by the 13th after the quarter (optional IFF by the 13th for the first two months), tax through PMT-06 by the 25th of the first two months, and GSTR-3B by the 22nd or 24th after the quarter depending on the state.
What is the late fee for GST returns?
For GSTR-3B and GSTR-1, ₹50 a day (₹25 CGST + ₹25 SGST), or ₹20 a day for nil returns, capped at ₹500 for nil returns and ₹2,000, ₹5,000 or ₹10,000 by turnover. Late tax also attracts 18% interest a year.
Can I file a return after three years?
No. Since the Finance Act, 2023, GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-4, GSTR-9 and similar returns cannot be filed after three years from their due date, and the GST portal now blocks them.
Are due dates extended when they fall on a holiday?
Not automatically. Extensions are made only by CBIC notification, so file on time and check the GST portal for any extension.
What is the due date for GSTR-3B?
For monthly filers, the 20th of the next month. For QRMP filers, the 22nd or 24th of the month after the quarter, depending on the state.
What is the due date of GSTR-9 for 2025-26?
GSTR-9 and GSTR-9C for FY 2025-26 are due by 31 December 2026, unless extended by CBIC.
When is GSTR-4 due?
The composition annual return GSTR-4 is due by 30 June after the financial year.
