How to Edit Text in a PDF Online for Free (in the Same Font)
Change the existing text in a PDF in its original font, size and colour, add text, images and signatures, fill forms and fix pages — free, no sign-up, no upload.
A wrong date in an agreement, a typo in a resume, an old phone number on an invoice: most PDF fixes are a few words. You do not need the original Word file or paid software to change them. This guide shows how to edit the text of any PDF online, keep the same font and layout, and make other common changes, all for free and without uploading the file.
Want to start right away? Open the free PDF Editor, drop your PDF and click the text you want to change.
Edit existing text in 4 steps
- Open the PDF Editor and drop your PDF on the page (or tap to choose it on your phone).
- Make sure Text is selected in the top toolbar, then click the line you want to change. It opens for editing in place.
- Type your change. Use the small toolbar above the text to change the font, size, bold, italic or colour if you need to.
- Click Apply changes. Your edited PDF downloads at once.
Why the text keeps the same font
A PDF stores each letter with the font it was drawn in. When you edit a line, the editor removes the old letters from the page and writes the new ones in the document’s own font, at the same position, size and colour. Because the old words are actually removed, they do not show up when someone copies or searches the text.
Many PDFs include only the letters they used. If you type a letter that is not there, the editor first borrows it from other copies of the same font in the file. If it is still missing, it uses a matching open font with identical letter widths, such as Carlito for Calibri or Caladea for Cambria, so the line keeps its length. When an edited line becomes longer or shorter, the rest of that line moves with it.
Add new text, images and signatures
- New text: with Text selected, click an empty spot and type.
- Images: choose Images, or simply paste a picture or drop it onto the page. Drag the corner to resize.
- Signature: choose Sign → New signature. Draw it, type your name in a handwriting style, or upload a photo of your signature; the white background is removed. Saved signatures stay in your browser for next time. For signing many pages at once, use Sign PDF.
- Links: choose Links and draw a box over the words that should be clickable, then enter a website, e-mail or page number.
Fill and create forms
If the PDF already has form fields, type straight into them on the page; checkboxes, radio buttons and dropdowns work too. To make a fillable form, open Forms and place text fields, multi-line fields, checkboxes, radio buttons or dropdowns wherever you need them.
Hide, highlight and mark up
- Whiteout draws a box over content. Text under the box is removed from the file when you save, so it cannot be copied later.
- Annotate lets you select text and highlight, strike through or underline it, add sticky notes, ticks, crosses and today’s date, or draw freehand.
- Find searches every page and can replace a word or name everywhere in one click.
Fix pages
Each page has its own small bar to rotate it, move it up or down or delete it. Use Insert page here between pages to add a blank page, or drag the thumbnails on the left to reorder. Edits stay in place when you rotate a page.
Common problems
- Nothing happens when I click the text: the page is probably a scan (a picture of text). Run OCR PDF first, or cover the words with Whiteout and type over them.
- The PDF asks for a password: remove it with Unlock PDF (you need the password), then edit.
- The file is too big to e-mail after editing: shrink it with Compress PDF.
- Hindi or other scripts: you can type them; they are saved as a sharp image of the text so the letters keep their correct shape.
Is it safe?
Yes. The editor runs entirely in your browser. Your PDF is never uploaded to a server, so it is suitable for agreements, ID documents, salary slips and resumes. There is no sign-up and no watermark.
Frequently asked questions
Can I edit a PDF without Adobe Acrobat?
Yes. The free Mishra World PDF Editor changes existing text, adds text, images and signatures and fills forms in your browser, without Acrobat or any installation.
Will the edited text match the original font?
Yes, where possible: the new text is written in the PDF’s own font. If a letter is missing from that font, a font with the same letter widths is used, such as Carlito for Calibri.
Can I edit a PDF on my phone?
Yes. Open the PDF Editor in your phone’s browser, tap the text to edit and tap Apply changes to download the file.
Is the old text really removed?
Yes. Edited and whited-out text is removed from the page when you save, so it does not appear when copying or searching the PDF.
