Why does X count my post differently from a normal counter?
X uses a weighted count: links always count as 23 characters, each emoji counts as 2, and Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters count as 2. This tool applies the same rules from X’s open-source twitter-text library.
How is Hindi counted?
Every Unicode code point counts — vowel signs (मात्रा) and the halant (्) are code points too, so “नमस्ते” is 6, not 3 visible letters. On X each of these counts 1, so Hindi posts get the full 280.
Why does my Hindi SMS split so early?
SMS in Hindi or with emoji uses Unicode encoding: 70 characters for one message, or 67 per part when the message is split. English-only messages use GSM-7: 160, or 153 per part.
How do the other platforms count?
Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and others don’t publish exact counting rules; this tool counts Unicode code points, which matches them for normal text. An emoji may count as 2 on some apps.
