Flashcards

Make your own flashcard decks and revise with flip cards and spaced repetition (Leitner boxes). Import and export CSV or JSON.

About Flashcards

This flashcards tool lets you make your own flashcard decks and study them with flip cards. Start from a ready-made deck or create your own, add a front and back to each card, then tap the card or press Space to flip it and mark it Known or Not yet.

It uses spaced repetition with Leitner boxes, so cards you know come back less often and missed cards return sooner, helping you revise efficiently for exams, languages and definitions. Decks are saved in your browser, and you can export or import them as CSV or JSON to back up or share. It is free and needs no sign-up.

How to use Flashcards

  1. Pick a starter deck or create your own and add cards (front and back).
  2. Tap the card (or press Space) to flip it, then mark it Known or Not yet.
  3. Known cards move up a box and come back later; missed cards return to box 1.
  4. Export a deck as CSV/JSON to back it up or share it; import to restore.

Frequently asked questions

What are Leitner boxes?

A simple spaced-repetition system. New cards start in box 1. Each correct answer moves a card up one box, and higher boxes are reviewed less often (box 2: next day, box 3: 3 days, box 4: 7 days, box 5: 14 days). A missed card goes back to box 1.

What CSV format can I import?

Two columns: front, back (a header row named front, back is optional). Values with commas should be wrapped in double quotes, as spreadsheets do automatically.

Where are my decks saved?

In this browser's local storage. Export a JSON backup before clearing browser data or switching devices.

How do I make flashcards online?

Create a deck, then add cards with a question or word on the front and the answer on the back. Start studying straight away.

How do flashcards help with studying?

Testing yourself with flashcards makes you recall answers actively, and spaced repetition reviews each card just before you are likely to forget it.

Can I make flashcards from a spreadsheet?

Yes. Save two columns (front and back) as CSV and import the file to create a deck.
