This video converter changes a video into the format your phone, TV, editor or upload form needs. Frequently asked questions

How fast is it?

MP4, WebM, MKV, MOV and TS use your device's hardware video encoder (WebCodecs) and usually run faster than real time. MOV to MP4 or MKV to MP4 with "Same as source" quality often just copies the streams in seconds. AVI, FLV, WMV, 3GP, MPEG, OGV, GIF and inputs the browser cannot decode use the compatibility engine, which is much slower — expect a few minutes per minute of HD video.

Are my videos uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser. The compatibility engine (about 31 MB) is downloaded once from a public CDN the first time it is needed; your files never leave the device.

Is there a size limit?

The fast engine handles files of several GB on a desktop. The compatibility engine runs in browser memory, so keep its files under about 1 GB, or trim them first.

Why is H.265, VP9 or AV1 not working?

These codecs are encoded only by your browser's own video encoder (WebCodecs), which current Chrome, Edge and Safari have; support for H.265 and AV1 also depends on the device. If yours lacks it, the tool says so — choose H.264, which plays everywhere. AVI, FLV, WMV, 3GP, MPEG, OGV and GIF output work in every modern browser.

How do I convert MOV to MP4?

Drop the MOV file, keep Format on MP4 and Quality on Same as source, and click Convert. When the video is already H.264 the streams are copied, so it takes only seconds.

How do I convert MKV to MP4 for a TV or phone?

Drop the MKV, choose MP4 with H.264 and click Convert. Pick 1080p or 720p if the TV or phone cannot play the original resolution.

Can I convert MP4 to MP3?

Yes. Choose MP3 (audio only) as the format to save just the sound track.
