Stopwatch & Timer
An accurate online stopwatch with laps and a countdown timer with presets and an alarm sound.
About Stopwatch & Timer
This online stopwatch and timer gives you both tools on one page. The stopwatch measures time accurately and records lap or split times with a single tap. The countdown timer lets you set hours, minutes and seconds, or pick a preset, and plays an alarm sound when time is up.
It is useful for study sessions, workouts, cooking, exams, presentations and games. It keeps time correctly even if you switch to another tab. There is nothing to install, it works on phones and computers, and it is free with no sign-up.
How to use Stopwatch & Timer
- Choose Stopwatch or Timer.
- Stopwatch: press Start, then Lap to record splits.
- Timer: set hours, minutes and seconds or pick a preset, then Start.
- When the timer ends an alarm plays — press Stop alarm to silence it.
Frequently asked questions
Is the stopwatch accurate?
Yes. It uses the browser’s high-resolution clock (performance.now), so it stays accurate even if the display updates slowly.
Will the alarm play if the tab is in the background?
The time keeps counting correctly in the background. Some browsers delay sounds in background tabs, so keep the tab visible for important alarms.
How do I set a timer online?
Choose Timer, enter hours, minutes and seconds or tap a preset, and press Start. An alarm plays when it reaches zero.
How do I record laps on the stopwatch?
Press Start, then press Lap each time you want to record a split; every lap time is listed below.
What is the difference between a stopwatch and a timer?
A stopwatch counts up from zero to measure how long something takes. A timer counts down from a set time and alerts you when it ends.
