Online Metronome

A precise metronome from 30 to 250 BPM with time signatures, accents, subdivisions, tap tempo and a visual beat.

About Online Metronome

This online metronome keeps precise time from 30 to 250 BPM. Set the tempo with the slider, the plus and minus buttons, or tap tempo to match a song. Choose a time signature such as 4/4, 3/4 or 6/8, add subdivisions like eighths or triplets, and the first beat of each bar is accented.

A visual beat helps when you cannot hear the click clearly, making it useful as a click track for guitar, piano, drums, tabla and singing practice. It runs in your browser on phones and computers, with no app to install and no sign-up.

How to use Online Metronome

  1. Set the tempo with the slider, the ± buttons or Tap tempo.
  2. Choose a time signature and subdivision.
  3. Press Start — the first beat of each bar is accented.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is it?

Clicks are scheduled ahead on the Web Audio clock, which is sample-accurate and not affected by the page being busy.

How does tap tempo work?

Tap the button at least twice in time with the music. The tempo is the average of your last few taps; pause for 2 seconds to start over.

Why is 6/8 accented on beats 1 and 4?

6/8 is a compound metre felt in two groups of three, so beat 4 gets a lighter accent.

How do I use an online metronome?

Set the BPM, choose a time signature and press Start. Play along with the clicks, and raise the tempo gradually as a passage becomes comfortable.

What does BPM mean?

BPM stands for beats per minute. 60 BPM is one beat per second; most pop songs sit between about 90 and 130 BPM.
