Audio Normalizer – LUFS Loudness

Measure loudness in LUFS and true peak, then normalise audio to −14 LUFS for YouTube and Spotify, −16 for podcasts or −23 for broadcast.

About Audio Normalizer – LUFS Loudness

Mishra World Audio Normalizer measures how loud your audio really sounds and sets it to the level streaming sites and broadcasters expect. It reads the integrated loudness in LUFS using the ITU-R BS.1770 method (the same one EBU R128 uses), along with the true peak and the sample peak, then calculates the gain needed to reach your target.

Pick −14 LUFS for YouTube, Spotify and Instagram, −16 LUFS for Apple Music and podcasts, or −23 LUFS for TV, and choose a true-peak ceiling such as −1 dBTP. A look-ahead limiter stops peaks from clipping when the file has to be made louder. The result is measured again so you can see the final LUFS. Files never leave your browser.

How to use Audio Normalizer – LUFS Loudness

  1. Drop an audio file (or try the sample).
  2. Read its integrated loudness, true peak and sample peak.
  3. Pick a target such as −14 LUFS and a peak ceiling.
  4. Click Normalise and download — the result is measured again.

Frequently asked questions

What is LUFS?

Loudness Units relative to Full Scale: a measure of how loud audio sounds to people, defined in ITU-R BS.1770 and EBU R128. Streaming sites turn every upload to roughly the same LUFS, so mastering near their target avoids surprises.

Which target should I use?

About −14 LUFS for YouTube, Spotify and Instagram, −16 LUFS for Apple Music and most podcasts, and −23 LUFS for TV and broadcast (EBU R128).

How accurate is the meter?

It follows the BS.1770-4 method (K-weighting, 400 ms blocks, absolute and relative gating) for mono and stereo. True peak is estimated with 4× oversampling, so treat it as within a few tenths of a dB.

What does the limiter do?

When reaching the target would push peaks above the ceiling, the limiter turns down only those short peaks so the rest can reach the target loudness. Without it, the whole file is turned down to respect the ceiling instead.

What LUFS should I use for YouTube?

About −14 LUFS integrated with peaks below −1 dBTP. YouTube turns louder uploads down, so mastering louder than that gives no benefit.

What is the difference between peak and loudness normalisation?

Peak normalisation only makes the loudest sample reach a level. Loudness (LUFS) normalisation matches how loud the whole file sounds, so different files play at a similar volume.
