Add Silence to Audio
Add seconds of silence at the start or end of an MP3, insert a pause anywhere, or trim the silence a recording already has.
About Add Silence to Audio
Mishra World Add Silence to Audio puts seconds of silence exactly where you need them. Enter how much silence to add at the beginning and the end of the file, and optionally insert a pause at any point, for example between an announcement and music. The new length is shown before you export.
If the recording already has untidy silence at its edges, the tool can trim it first using a threshold you set, then add clean padding. This helps with IVR and phone-system prompts, quiz and exam audio, video editing, playlists and apps that cut off the first moment of a clip. Files are processed in your browser.
How to use Add Silence to Audio
- Drop an audio file (or try the sample).
- Enter how many seconds of silence to add at the start and end.
- Optionally insert a pause at a given time, or trim existing silence first.
- Export as MP3 or WAV.
Frequently asked questions
Why add silence?
Some players, quiz apps, IVR systems and video editors cut off the first moment of a clip. A short lead-in of silence avoids that, and padding at the end prevents abrupt endings in playlists.
How is existing silence detected?
Anything quieter than the threshold you choose (−50 dBFS by default) at the very start and end is treated as silence and removed before the new padding is added.
Can I make a file of pure silence?
Yes: use the sample, tick Trim existing silence with a high threshold, or simply add the silence you need — the output keeps the sample rate of the input.
How do I add 2 seconds of silence to the start of an MP3?
Open the file, set Silence at start to 2 and Silence at end to 0, then click Export and download the MP3.
How do I remove silence from the start and end?
Tick Trim existing silence, adjust the threshold if needed, and set the added silence to 0. The exported file starts and ends with sound.
